Trumpeter Swans

Are you looking for something to do with your family or on your own this Family Day weekend?

Something that is free and family friendly?

Why not head to Lasalle Park and Marina in beautiful Burlington, ON and celebrate the annual, “Family Day with the Trumpeter Swans”? Every year on Family Day we come together from across the province to celebrate the successful reintroduction of these beautiful and magnificent birds to Ontario. Harry Lumsden, aka Father Swan will be joining us this year. He is 90+ years young and knows all things trumpeter. Without his vision and determination we would not have these beautiful birds in Ontario today. They were wiped out in the 1800’s with the last one being shot at Long Point. Today there are about 1,000 trumpeter swans throughout the province. Every winter, two hundred or so trumpeter swans head to Lasalle Park and Marina to spend the winter in this sheltered bay on Lake Ontario. It is the largest gathering of trumpeter swans in the province. Come out and meet the swans, hear the story of how they were reintroduced. Meet Bev Kingdon, a trumpeter volunteer from the very beginning. She has followed the swans (or have the swans followed her?) in different parts of the province including the North Bay area, Port Severn and Burlington. The banders will be present and hope to catch and band a swan or two to show you how it’s done. Come with your questions. Bring your camera and take photos of and with the swans. The weather is looking good and there is no better way to celebrate Family Day than with the trumpeter swans in Burlington, ON. Lasalle Park and Marina is located at the bottom of Lasalle Park Road.

Additional parking is available in the Lasalle Park parking lot on North Shore Blvd East.

We hope to see you there!
