Borrow a Human Book for a one-on-one conversationHuman Library at the Ottawa Public Library

Real people. Real conversations / Histoires vécues. Histoires à partager.

Human “Books” have volunteered to take part in the event with the goal of building tolerance and respect for diversity in our community. A Reader ‘borrows’ a Book and engages in a one-on-one conversation to gain a better understanding of that person.

How to participate

  • Readers register for one book at a time, in person, on the day of the event.
  • Books get “checked out” for a 20-minute conversation by a Reader.
  • Registration for the event is first come, first served.
  • It is not necessary for Readers to have a Library card.

Please note:

  • This event is not a career fair.
  • This program is designed for an adult audience. Children may check out certain books with the in-person consent of a parent.
